What is the best piece of clothing to sew / do first, for a beginner.?

Hello, I am learning to sew and only knows what basic, but I would make an article of clothing. I thought maybe a simple skirt would be a good place to start, what do you think? When buying patterns of companies such as Vogue and Butterick there much differance between them are some patterns work better companies than others? Does anyone know some good fabric shop in Colchester / Chelmsford or surrounding towns, but not in London. Thank you very much for all anwsers sensitive.

The clothes can first draft be a little fickle, if you do not have to help someone when you get stuck, so they tend to suggest Night – sleepshirt, shirt, pants, PJ, that sort of thing. A simple skirt, is another possibility – a line or a flared gored skirt – something quite easily in the hip that has to fit both waist and hip to make it look good. Yes, there are some differences in the basic design blocks for the major pattern companies. There is a "basic pattern of adjustment" in the back of the Big 4 books that supposedly can fit and then transfer the changes that you find any of their patrons. I do not use many trade patterns, because I find it more easy to make my own that to accommodate another person patterns. One of the trademarks, I like KwikSew, Stretch and sew, Khali, Burda and Connie Crawford patterns is doing for Butterick, Simplicity and a few, and Vogue. Here is a comparison of some patterns of the pants of several companies: http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2706906070049590158sRJJHI pay no attention to anything, but the U-shaped space of every standard … that is the "crotch curve, see how to reduce the U is in the pattern McCall – No room for a body in that space (the front of his pants, btw, is left in each case) – should be a paper doll to fit that pattern. In contrast, the Burda pants have enough room in the crotch curve to accommodate a young woman with a normal weight of the gluteal muscles. By various technical reasons, the Burda pattern on that page is the one that I even begin to consider the above. The other thing I suggest to the beginners is to find someone to help you choose a pattern, and then make the pattern for at least 3 times before moving on to another. Learning to sew has a great curve learning enough to do the same pattern as many times tends to help determine exactly what you're doing, and how to do better. I'm not in the United Kingdom and I can not advise on the stores. If Kate is shown here, will have good suggestions. Otherwise, jump to groups.google.com and do an advanced search for alt.sewing, and search the posts that mentioned Kate in some of her fabric suppliers. The only thing I come up with now is Joshi.
